Cafes/Tearooms

Cafes/Tearooms
Description
The Old Smithy (Monyash about 2 miles) – this is one of our favourites! A cosy converted old building which serves a good selection of freshly-prepared food. Mostly along the line of hot and cold sandwiches and paninis, jacket potatoes and all day breakfasts all with fresh local ingredients. Eat in or outside (when it’s warm enough). Perfect for late breakfast or brunch at the weekend or for a cup of tea and a piece of cake in the afternoon. Also sell ice creams.

Monsal Head Café (Monsal Dale – 3 miles) – just in front of the Monsal pub, with an even better view across Monsal Dale. Fantastic home-made cakes, muffins and parkin (like a slightly chewy ginger cake). Also shop with local pictures, crafts and postcards.

Ricci’s (Bakewell – 3 miles) – a small Italian café/takeaway offering snacks, pizza and pasta. Ideal for a family meal, although please note that they shut promptly at 8pm in the evening (we’ve been caught out before now!).

The Olde Bakewell Pudding Shoppe (Bakewell – 3 miles) – right on the main street and claiming to be the source of the first ever Bakewell pudding, this is nevertheless worth a visit. It does get very busy (particularly in peak holiday times) but still manages to offer a good selection of traditional café food catering to most tastes. From toasted teacakes and tea to beans on toast, sandwiches salads and main dishes all at reasonable prices. The café is upstairs, downstairs is a bakery and deli selling Bakewell puddings (of course and they can be mailed as presents!), also Derbyshire oatcakes (like large, flat crumpets), fresh bread and local specialities.

Bakewell also has a plethora of other cafés, teashops and snack bars.
